We perform floor slip resistance testing, which is the science of measuring the coefficient of friction of flooring surfaces
So what is “coefficient of friction”?
Coefficient of friction is a mathematical term used to describe the effect of dragging one substance (eg. shoe worn on foot) over another (eg. flooring surface).
This coefficient is a measurement of the relative ability of various surfaces to resist the sliding or slipping of the selected material.
Whilst testing can also be performed in a laboratory, we perform our testing on-site which makes it more convenient for clients.
Our tests include:
- a NATA Accredited test report in Australian Standards format;
- a comprehensive cover letter with photo layout (where applicable); and
- an explanation of the Australian Standards applicable to the test site and how those standards relate to the surfaces tested.

Sliptest product classification to Australian Standard 4586
[ Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials ]
At Sliptest Australia we certify what the product is as it is presented to us, we can go onsite and meet with you, or test in one of our three NATA accredited laboratories throughout Australia when and where you need us.
We test thousands of different tiles, flooring systems, and new pedestrian surfaces every year. We test to AS4586 and are NATA accredited. We use the British pendulum machine to provide you the “P” rating for the surface.
Our point of difference and value add for our clients:
We look forward to partnering with you and being your preferred testing facility. Contact us today to arrange a meeting or site inspection.
Sliptest product classification to Australian Standard 4663
[ Slip resistance measurement of existing pedestrian surfaces ]
As a Sliptest Australia client we manage, service and monitor your surfaces and update you on how they are performing with wear and tear and the cleaning chemicals you use.
We have thousands of sites across Australia using our slip testing and floor safety expertise, our professional program lets you know at a glance how your site is going through monitoring, with history and the latest issued results – and if you have any issues on-site we can work with you through the rectification process.
We are not a ‘churn and burn’ company – we are looking for long term partnerships at the best possible rates for a level of service that is best in class.

NATA Accreditation
NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) accredits organisations to perform testing and inspection activities for their products and services. This gives consumers the assurance they need to make safe, healthy and reliable choices.
NATA slip testing accreditation information
Our NATA accreditation was obtained using the guidelines published in AS ISO/IEC 17025 along with reference to and adherence with the current Australian Standards.
We are audited by NATA on a regular basis to ensure that our testing methods and reporting systems are accurate and comply to the Australian Standards applicable to our industry, namely AS 4586 and AS 4663.
The new NATA standards and how they affect slip testing results
As of 29 June 2013, the Australian Standards AS 4586 (New Surfaces) and AS 4663 (Existing Surfaces), have been reviewed and updated with changes affecting the reporting of results with regards to measured slopes of the test sites both wet and dry.
Sliptest Australia have obtained accreditation under these new standards, which ensures our reporting is in line with the latest requirements.
NATA accreditation is a formal recognition that Sliptest Australia has met specific standards set by an independent third-party organisation. In the case of slip testing, NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) is the Australian organisation responsible for accrediting slip testing companies.
Choosing a non-accredited slip testing company may increase the risk of inaccurate or unreliable results. Accreditation ensures that a company has met specific technical competence, quality management, and other requirements. Therefore, working with an accredited company like us provides more confidence in the accuracy and reliability of the test results.
